When Singelveste/Alleewonen corp. asked me to do a series of the demolition of over 100 of their houses in Geeren-Zuid in Breda this summer, I didn't had to think twice.
I visit abandoned places often with my camera, capture "Traces of Silence" in fine art photography & books. There were no restrictions, this way I was able to shoot more than just the tearing down of the houses like an ordinary photo journalist.
I tried to capture the spirit of the people who once lived here.
It's social housing, the houses aren't big and often very similar in lay out. By this book I hope their soul will be kept alive forever. I used the old crossing E6 film technique which makes colors more vivid and authentic to the former residents' colorful identities.
