About the Book
Occurring during Fall 2009, this third installment represents a collection of drawings produced within the guidance and context of a drawing class taught by Craig Dongoski at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Students were constrained by only using dots, dashes and circles. A schedule of the amount and color were administered incrementally as the drawing evolved throughout the 16-week span (a.k.a. semester). The marks were individually counted and tallied. The entire composition accounts for approximately 170,000 of each [dot/dash/circle). The intent is to explore a long and sustained process aimed at exposing a personal pattern.
The second set of drawings/paintings were made by painting-along with a digitally developing image. These were produced also throughout the 16-week period following in real-time, manipulations and interpretations made by feeding various images to the software Studio Artist 3.5 [SynthetikSoftware]. This project confronts students with media intervention, acquaintance of material & process, and an experiential understanding of abstraction. The use of the computer in this fashion also presents a possibility of augmenting the studio practice.
