About a quarter of the Washington State University campus in Pullman, Washington is covered by parking lots. These spaces are some of the most under utilized, and consequently, uninspiring spaces on college campuses. They are places where the only visible movement is that of the occasional automobile coming or going. The parking lots on the WSU campus have become dead, stagnant deserts within the campus; continuing to promote a mono culture of automobile visitors.
I am proposing to reinvigorate one specific parking lot on the WSU campus that has become an area absent of dynamic movement and life through a “soft,” flexible space. To do this several strategies have been established to re-animate, revive and re-imagine a parking lot site on the WSU campus.
