These pictures are a series of images that describe my Amma's house just after she moved out and before the house was sold.

My mom asked me to take some pictures to serve as a record and I approached the subject from the vantage point of an artist and a documentary photographer. My focus was to capture the essence of the place and Amma's presence in it; small details that would come together to paint a larger picture.

The photos themselves are laid out in the order one might have encountered upon entering the house, beginning with the macrame piece at the back door, to the kitchen and living room, and on to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom.

For many years I think that this house served as a base for the Henrikson side of the family and had the important function of being a meeting place. Because of this, in addition to painting a portrait of Amma's space, I tried to translate the feelings of comfort and home that were part of the house's role as a family gathering point.

Sarah! You have captured beautifully the coziness of Amma's house and what she meant to so many. Your careful attention to smallest details say so much.
