About the Creator
I seek out and am intrigued by links among seemingly unrelated objects or events. I begin with drawings from life in order to record my vision of the essence of the subject — whether it be plant, human or object. I also photograph the subject in order to preserve a precise moment — a bud, a bloom, or the start of deterioration. These photographic studies become my base layer, sometimes disappearing entirely under the pigment and wax and other times surfacing as a whisper of what lies beneath. By encasing texture and color in layers of hot wax, floating in space, I aim to reveal the beauty in things unseen or indefinable. My goal is to create work that is simultaneously sensual and contemplative.
