This illustrated children's book is a myth about why the firefly lights. It is a story within a story, set in the context of a grandmother telling her grandchild the myth on a warm summer evening.

Bobbie Gilbert Kogok grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she remembers catching jars full of fireflies for researchers trying to discover the secret to why the firefly lights. Although the firefly's true lighting power has been revealed, this is the myth she wrote for her daughters when they were little girls, and has now illustrated and put into book form so that the story can be passed on to her grandchildren.
Bobbie lives with her wonderful husband Bob in Potomac, MD, not far from all three of her daughters and their families, and still loves to sit on the porch and watch the fireflies on early summer nights.
