Before the famous California Gold Rush, German immigrant familes were working hard to create a successful and permanent home in the City of Saint Francis. The arrival of Franciscan Friars, recently exiled from their German homelands during Otto vonBismark's anti-Catholic Kulturkampf campaign, would mark the lighting a sentinel in the City which burns bright to his day.
