Max's New Friend
A story about disabilities
by Written and Illustrated by Melissa R. Giaquinto
Hello! I am Melissa Giaquinto. I am currently a student, studying Special Education. I also love all forms of art. If I am not working or doing school work, I am creating something!
Fine work. I am currently a Special Education teacher in Oregon, with 16 years of rewarding work under my belt. My classroom has shelves of books, most of them dusty, which I am constantly adding to. This book that I am reviewing, Max's New Friend, will not be collecting dust. It's a truly heart warming story which easily delivers hope with imagery. One of the points that I would like to applaud the author on is her ability to get to the point early, and present it clearly. It is a difficult task to keep kids focused, and this book allows my class to relate to the main character within the first two pages. The book makes it very easy to incorporate tone of voice, and the illustrations are full of color and energy. Hats of to the the author, Ms. Giaquinto.

As a Professor of Special Education, and a 28 yr. veteran of teaching children of all ages and abilities, who also has a physical disability. I feel this book will promote many objectives in children. Whether children HAVE A DISABILITY OR NOT, it will promote disability awareness, a positive self-esteem, commonalities among children and an overall fantastic story.Prof. Weiler, M.Ed.Southern CT State University
