Continuing my series of planned yet random forays into the unexplored reaches of the London A-Z.....
With the whole of London at my disposal, I had assumed that I would be exploring unfamiliar territory. But things rarely turn out as you think they will and my chosen chance strategy had other plans for me. I was despatched off to spend the day travelling on the buses in north-east London, parts of which I know fairly well, though I suppose as good a place as any to spend a rain-soaked day.
I had not had the pleasure of journeying on a London bus for quite some time so was surprised to see that each stop is now displayed on an illuminated board accompanied by the refined tones of a female announcer....just as well, as the view out of the window was obscured for the most part by a film of condensation and raindrops, creating that special atmosphere of sheltered intimacy that you only get on the top deck of a bus but preventing you from seeing where you actually are.
Looking through the bus window seems to have set the tone for the day, my experience of London filtered by a succession of windows or screens of one sort or another, shaping my vision just as the camera frames what the eye sees through the viewfinder.
