The ongoing Medjugorje phenomenon, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, has attracted millions of people seeking peace for their hearts, families, and the world. Many bring back stories in the form of healings, miraculous events, and deep conversions back to God. Attracted by the powerful message of Medjugorje and how it has transformed so many lives, I traveled there in 2006. I am happy to share my own experience so that others may awaken to the magnificence of this place.

About the Author

Scott S.

I grew up on a farm in southwestern Minnesota. After earning a degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota, I joined Peace Corps Belize as an Environment Volunteer.

In a rapidly developing nation, where wetlands are filled for housing and rainforest is cleared for agricultural use, it seems that the scale is tipped in favor of the people, while the environment is held under tremendous pressure. While working with the Belize Audubon Society, I experienced first-hand how critical stakeholder involvement is to conservation planning.  My experience in the Peace Corps has motivated me to continue working in public outreach, which has multiple positive benefits for both people and the environment.

While I have returned home, my mission continues as I impart a better understanding of Belize to the people I meet. I enjoy sharing my photographs, knowledge, and even cooking up a nice pot of rice and beans every once in a while.

Yes, Medjugorje has much of the same appeal as places like Lourdes and Fatima. While the Vatican has not given an official stance on the apparitions at Medjugorje, Pope John Paul II has said, "Let the people go to Medjugorje if they convert, pray, confess, do penance, and fast." The Vatican cannot make a statement until the apparitions have ended and there is some proof that the secrets have been revealed, which will be, as we are told from the messages, during the life time of the visionaries.
