To make great pinot noir is more a quest and passion than a job. In these pages you will see the faces of a small group of people pursuing that quest in one vintage. The next vintage will be as distinctive as this one, so each harvest is a once-in a-lifetime opportunity and a totally unique interaction with nature.
The 2007 vintage was typically trying in Oregon as this is a cool climate where it's often challenging to ripen our pinot noir grapes before the winter rains come. However, that's why we all came here. To reflect all of its glory pinot noir must be grown in a climate that is just barely warm enough to ripen it. That is why Oregon's winegrowing pioneers migrated from sunny California to chilly Oregon to grow their pinot noir. Today Oregon is recognized the world over as one of the few places growing pinot noir that clearly sings both of the variety and soil from which it was born.
Each vintage in Oregon is a distinct story. This book is but one chapter.
