About the Book
This book documents a series of studies in ink, conté crayon and photograph which have been executed by the author. They are all based on great works of art: from classical sculpture, through drawings and frescos of Raphael and Michelangelo, to sculptures by Rodin.
The idea was to use these studies to gain insights into the minds and methods of great artists from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. In each case, the discussion draws upon literary sources which inspired the original works, as well as the accounts of the various artists' friends and contemporaries.
