About the Book
This thesis explores a comprehensive and precise understanding into the world of the Autistic Child and the crucial importance of intensive early education for better performance based on the experiences and theories derived from the Montessori Method. In addition an investigation into the possibility of creating a conjunction
and break down of activities and spaces linking them into manageable stages that examine ways to gain the child’s attention and motivation to build on small achievements. Presented will be an examination of the potential benefit of combining effects between interactive architecture and the Montessori approach on early
age teaching for creating an educational facility with a sensible connection to life.
“Autistic children respond very well to the multi-sensory, interactive Montessori teaching/ learning approach; it is very difficult for a child with autism to maintain concentration in any activity without being continuously stimulated and practically involved with the learning process. The Montessori approach provides sensorial continuous stimulation that has positive impact in the learning process.”
The investigation will delve into exploring the dialogue that can coexist between architecture, interactive education and child behavior. Additionally this thesis will provide insight into the socioeconomic circumstances of the children of Dominican Republic. Finally this effort is aimed at producing the outlines of a physical facility that is focused on an architectural design that speaks to the feelings and behaviors of the Autistic Child and the benefits that he or she will gain by experiencing an educational environment that encourages interaction amongst their piers for social recognition and the self development of the individuals.
