Life is not measured
by the breaths we take
but by the moments
that take our breath away
My goal - when putting this book together - was to show New York in an authentic and noncommercial way. I wanted to capture the "real" NYC: everyday scenes and new perspectives that reflect the city's uplifting spirit, the endless energy as well as the vital atmosphere that surrounds you wherever you go - yet does not hide the less glamorous sides of NYC.
Most pictures have been taken when walking around the little alleys in the East Village, Meatpacking District, Chelsea, Greenwich, SoHo and Brooklyn and show cozy cafes and hidden spaces as well as street scenes from the lively neighborhoods around Union Square. This photobook captures only a few of the magical locations and moments of NYC. There is still so much more to discover - in the city that never sleeps.
I truly hope these pictures give you a glimpse of the true New York City as I have come to appreciate and love it. Please enjoy the rather unique and uncommon perspectives of New York City and hopefully you can feel the spirit of the city and its people when looking thru this book. Let this book put you in "a new york state of mind" (Billy Joel).
I would like to thank the following people:
Lindsay for encouraging me to get out there with my camera and take some photos. Amazingly, she never gets tired of answering my photography questions. Thanks for the fun times in the City and Milford.
Rudi who has always believed in my work and who has encouraged and inspired me to put this book together. Rudi, it was so much fun to explore the City with you. Thank you so much for being the friend that you are.
Ivan for his never ending patience with me and my picture taking. He has been a great help with picking out the photos for this book. Thank you so much for all your support and love. I know there are many more magical moments coming our way.
Born into and raised by a loving family in Duesseldorf, Germany I have by now made the world and Milford, CT my home. Having spend extended time periods in the US, Thailand, and all over Europe, I love to travel and enjoy getting to know people from different cultures and backgrounds. My other passions in life are planning events, photography and dogs. I rescued a lab mutt about 1,5 years ago and since then I'm very involved in dog rescue work. My recent photo book on rescue puppies is a fundraiser for Critter Cavalry Rescue. I am happiest when being with my friends & family who are always welcome at my Milford home - where I live with my husband and our rescue dog Zazu. To relax, I like to spend time on the beach, do outdoor sports or go sailing. My motto that I would like to share: "Risk more than others think is safe. Care more than others think is wise. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible." Love, Peace & Happiness, Steffi
