About the Book
A selection of Caitlin Karolczak's paintings paired with an insightful interview conducted by Melbourne based visual artist Paul W Ruiz. Now with a small section illustrating the process & various layers that go into a finished painting.
Karolczak explores a number of themes in her work connected to the fragility of the human body and mind. Her imagery is often inspired by medical imagery. She deliberately and artfully arranges her subjects while purposely intersecting notions of beauty and distress.
Her pieces incorporate painting techniques from many eras, both classical and modern. She intertwines meticulously detailed renderings with abstract backgrounds, collages, and other unfinished representational details. She often uses vintage and recycled material, collecting everything from antique textiles and paper, to vials of powdered pigments and oils. The past lives of these materials offer additional texture to her artistic process.
