Hipstamatic re-examines Melbourne in 2010 through the lens of an iPhone.

This series uses a variety of software applications available on the iPhone, from Hipstamatic and Best Camera to CrossProcess and Genius.

Referencing the square image, the immediacy and the colour anomalies of polaroids from the 1970s, the photographer’s only controls were framing and timing. Nothing has been retouched; the photographs are pure records of the interactions and events shown.

I love this book! Dicky in parts, cheeky in others. I think we will see more of this type of artistic recording of the present through mobile devices. I certainly want to see more from this artist! It’s an important record of now life in Melbourne. Filtered by the artist’s interpretation and choices of what to capture, include/exclude, it gives us an insight into the artist’s mind also.
