A record of "Creating a New Craft Culture: The 2009 American Craft Council Conference."
The world is in transition – economically, politically, and environmentally – and the changes that are radically transforming how we communicate, what we value, and how we live affect us all. In this transitional moment, the American Craft Council engaged a distinguished group of speakers representing voices from inside and outside the craft field to stimulate your thinking and investigate the inherent tensions between craft as a lifestyle and craft as a livelihood.
This book is a collection of illustrated transcripts from the “Creating a New Craft Culture” conference, with a new introductory essay by the craft scholar Sandra Alfoldy. The conference, which took place October 15-17, 2009 in Minneapolis, MN, featured Richard Sennett, Rob Walker, Garth Clark, Natalie Chanin, and Elissa Auther, among many others.
