This book features Roy Ahlgren's complete career as an artist and educator. It contains reference to almost 1000 works that Ahlgren created between 1965 and 2010.
In 1988, a serious respirational problem caused by inhaling solvent fumes from serigraphic printing found Ahlgren changing direction. He surrendered his geometric design work in favor of painting natural subjects--landforms, lakes, streams--on stretched canvas. He continued in this manner for the next 22-years to generate 600 separate paintings.
The book lists titles, sizes, media, dates of creation, and current ownership of all art plus illustrates approximately 300 works in full color.
"Fran Schanz: Heart of Art" and "Fran Schanz: Select Drawings" are two recent books about artist Schanz. "Roy Ahlgren: Catalogue Raisonne" and "Roy Ahlgren: Hard Edge Paintings & Op Art Serigraphs: 1965-1988" are my third and second books, respectively. In 2005, I and Albrecht Associates published Courage and Innovation, a 150 page historical book about Lord Corporation. The volume was heavily illustrated and oversize in dimension and contained much content and opinion from the company's and Jura Corporation's then Chairman, Donald Alstadt.
Hagle retired from Lord Corporation in 2002 after 37 years of service in a variety of technical and communication management positions. He holds an MFA degree in visual communications from Syracuse University and has taught at Mercyhurst College where he also served as director of the college's Cummings Art Gallery.
He is a USAF veteran and currently lives and writes in Erie, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, North Carolina.
