About the Book
This book is a catalogue of art works selected for a portraiture exhibition that showcases local, emerging Ottawa-based artists. The goal of the show and the catalogue is two-fold: to demonstrate and celebrate the vitality of contemporary portraiture in Canada and to support the ongoing struggle of the Portrait Gallery of Canada (PGC) in finding a permanent home for its collection to be viewed by the public.
The catalogue includes two essays concerning the state of contemporary Canadian portraiture, with a focus on the artists presented, and the work of 20 local artists, ranging from photography to painting to video to sculpture, along with statements written by the individual artists.
The proceeds from the purchase of this catalogue support local artistic talent and the formation of a national portrait gallery where the millions of images of Canada's past can be appreciated and learned from by visitors.
