About the Book
Kurt Vonnegut once said, "Being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or punishment after you are dead." It was during a class reading of Vonnegut's Mother Night that the theme of our published book of 10th grade writing became clear. Humanism was the thread that bound all of our reading, work, and projects together this year. Thus, the title: The Humanist. The first chapter consists of poems that were written during the We Wear the Mask project, which explored the topic of identity. The second chapter is a collection of short stories that are based on real life student experiences. The third chapter is a diverse array of historical essays that fall under the theme of "Modern Revolutions." This collected work of HTHMA students is truly impressive, as well as inspiring.
