A Tribute to the Man Who Led the Belgian Colony of Chicago for Fifty Years
by David Baeckelandt
Tracking the life of one of the most prominent Flemish immigrants to Chicago, the author shares a unique record of the history of Chicago's 10,000-strong "Belgische Colonie" - Belgian Colony. Included are excerpts of never-before published photos, documents, and personal interviews. This book fills a gap in understanding not only Chicago's ethnic history, but also how immigrant groups adapted and assimilated to late 20th century American life.
David Baeckelandt was born and raised in the U.S. He has an MA in History from the University of Illinois. Married with three active children, he is passionate about his family, scripophily, genealogy, and history.
