About the Book
Story Swap is an innovative educational project that uses storytelling, creative writing, and the visual arts to foster understanding among diverse populations. The program was established in 2007 by the Aspen Writers’ Foundation, a pioneering nonprofit organization that has been a leader in the literary arts since 1976.
Following the January 12th, 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the idea for a swap between high school students in Port-au-Prince and New Orleans - two populations from storytelling cultures that have experienced devastating natural disasters - was discussed. Through a partnership with the Bezos Family Foundation and Global Nomads Group, this idea quickly coalesced into the Aspen Writers' Foundation’s most recent Story Swap, which took place April 19-23, 2010 in New Orleans and Port-au-Prince.
