About the Book
East New Market, between the towns of Hurlock, Cambridge, and Secretary in Dorchester County, is marked on the map by the crossroads of Maryland Routes 14 and 16. Founded in 1776 and designated historic at the country’s bicentennial, East New Market boasts multiple churches and a diverse and interesting stock of houses. In addition to the “historic downtown,” there is a site “across the tracks” on which a railroad depot, remaining from the days of the Dorchester & Delaware Railroad, still lies.
East New Market’s desire to preserve itself needs to encompass both the town’s structures and its people. In this report, we present strategies, suggestions, and findings designed to help the community preserve and sustain its culture.
