“France is not Italy!” is a photographic book about the cultural landscape of the French and Italian Riviera. While in France, I heard this phrase as an explanation for why things were the way they were in France. At the time it seemed trivial, however, after visiting both the French and Italian Riviera the phrase began to take on a unique meaning. These two countries share a small part of the world, however the geography that kept them separate for centuries crafted very different cultures and political states. This book explores and captures, through photographs, the culture of the people in this region and the historic landscape they share.
