“Our family’s love is like a thread
that binds our hearts together,
stitched in prayers and memories.
Our family is forever.”
Those words were inscribed within my Great Great Grandmother’s diary as she wrote of my Great Great Uncle’s decision to leave the old country, Denmark, for the promised land of Poplar, Iowa. Many years have passed since she wrote this and the family is now larger then they probably could have ever expected. Through revisiting the photographs that have piled up throughout the years, I drew inspiration into what the places she wrote about and the stories that came from those places must have looked like. These images are for my family and for myself, this is the land of my fathers’ fathers.
I'm currently studying photojournalism at Corcoran College of Art & Design.
