A Slice of Life
The tragic story of events on an artist's still life table
by Ona K
About the Book
This book explores different aspects of art history through nine watercolour paintings created by Ona K and an accompanying short fictional narrative written by Ona K and her daughter.
The story, set on an artists still life table, tells a tale of crime, desire, intrigue, love and much more and explores how passionate fruit might be if they had feelings and were faced with life and death situations.
The art journal gives readers a glimpse into the significant artistic contributions of Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, Jules Cheret, Jan Van Eyck, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Dutch Vanitas style paintings, Ancient Egyptian art, Expressionism and Surrealism. It also explains how Ona used these styles to create and develop the story through the nine original and unique watercolour paintings.
'A Slice of Life' is a book for those who just love art or those with a wry sense of humour. It would also be an invaluable resource for teachers both in an Elementary and Secondary setting.

Ona has been painting professionally since 2008. Her years of experience working with deaf children helped her to develop a strong understanding of how feelings, emotion and knowledge can be communicated visually. She draws on this when creating art, painting in essence, the emotions of life. She loves to use transparent watercolour to build shape, form and create atmosphere. Colour palette is very important to her in helping to create this ‘soul’ in a painting. She enjoys the subtleties of glazing to build shape and form and develop the colours she feel best convey the atmosphere she is after. she specializes in portraiture of people and animals but also enjoys painting landscapes, still life and more creative pieces. She has had my work juried into regional, national and international exhibitions and won several awards both nationally and Internationally.
