The "Summer Garden" is a garden in a small South Russian provincial town near the Ukrainian border. For several decades it was the garden of my wife's parents until they recently had to sell it.
I consider this book not only as an appraisal of a status that doesn't exist anymore, but also as a kind of homage: to the beauty of the garden and its nature, to the steady and careful work that was necessary to maintain it like this over the years and seasons, and to the extraordinary within the ordinary.
