The photos in this book were taken in several cities and towns throughout Ecuador: Ambato, Cotacachi, Ibarra, Otavalo, Quisapincha, and on the Galápagos islands of Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal. The small South American country of Ecuador is home to millions of stray dogs. They roam through large cities and small villages, desperately seeking food and shelter. Even puppies bear scars from dog fights and broken limbs from car accidents. Street dogs suffer from preventable diseases (such as canine distemper, parvovirus, and Rabies) due to a lack of veterinary treatment.

A small group of volunteers work tirelessly to help these abandoned and forgotten dogs. Protección Animal Ecuador (PAE) is a non-profit volunteer group located in the cities of Ambato and Ibarra. Every aspect of PAE's work - veterinary care, rescue teams, shelters and adoption centers - relies on volunteer support and donations. In addition to helping street dogs, PAE volunteers also advocate for humane laws, treat injured wildlife, and give presentations to local schools and veterinary universities. Net proceeds of this book will be used to support the work of PAE in Ambato and Ibarra.
