The Maples are at it again! In this large, extended family of dolls, Dad just got a promotion at work. He's now the head of Special FX at his film studio. He brings home a huge pile of robotic animal parts which he allows his children to help him assemble, but he's then called away on business. Ten-year-old Jordan has a cool idea: mix up the body parts! And that's when the fun, and the trouble, begin.
"The extra effort that was put into setting up all the dolls and making the mix-ups created a completely original world."
--Jacob R., 10, Toronto
"The MAPLES MIX 'em UP! asks some hard questions about the ethics of messing around with nature. Visit again with the irrepressible four-generation Maple family in this absorbing, clever and surprising sequel to "The MAPLES on the MOVE!" --Ellen Douglas, Toronto District School Board Librarian and Editor, Fernfolio
In the 70s and 80s I made independent films with government grants and had various exhibitions of my still photography. In 1990 I got my teaching certificate, and shared my love of these art forms with my students for about 15 years. In 2007, when my daughter was six, she collaborated with me on writing my first book with Blurb, "The Maples on the Move" and its sequel, "The Maples Mix 'em Up" in 2010. Shortly after that I got the idea that I could make books with my primary students, too! I've collaborated with my classes on 7 books now. What a great motivator and community builder it's been for them: to work away on a class project (on a theme from the curriculum) and then to produce this very polished result. Parents can experience their work by purchasing a hard copy or previewing it for free on the internet. Check out my Bookstore where I've got 16 different titles. I'll be exhibiting at The Word on the Street on September 27th, 2015 at Harbourfront.
