For the first time in nearly fifty years one of the authors decides to make a sentimental car and camping journey to a part of Normandy he last saw in 1961, while working as a seventeen year-old moniteur in a colonie de vacances at Fermanville, near Barfleur. Juxtaposing old and new photographs the authors explore landscape and memory before moving on to spend precious time with their grandchildren in Brittany. Within a fortnight they are flying to a completely new experience to the beautiful Ionian Sea and the Greek islands of Levkada and Meganisi. Light, landscape, language and history are completely different, of course, but both Normandy and Greece have their own unique characteristics which are strikingly contrasted in picture and narrative in this book.
