A survey of Ben Cook's recent work and catalogue for the Ben Cook Littoral Drifter exhibition at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University 4th March to 21st May 2011. Fifty high quality images with an introduction by curator Rob Airey: -Reflecting Ben Cook’s multi-disciplinary artistic practice, the title of this book and associated exhibition, Littoral Drifter, has multiple meanings. It can be seen as describing the act of surfing and the ‘zone’ in which it takes place i.e. the body afloat or adrift in the littoral regions of the shoreline/landscape. ‘Littoral’ can also suggest the borders and boundaries not only of surfing’s physical geography, but also the margins of mainstream society, where a particular and popular view of surfers as literally social ‘drifters’ represents them inhabiting a ‘littoral’, outsider subculture....
