About the Book
The Pecos River project was conceived when Pomona, a renowned watercolor artist, expressed her wish to visually document the Pecos River. As a “desert rat” and native New Mexican, the river, it’s history and the communities that belonged to the river had intrigued Pomona for many years. The project presented an opportunity for Pomona and myself (her daughter) to spend time together doing what each loves best, painting and photography. Armed with maps, cameras, film, paint, sketchpads, and determination, we ventured forth in April 1993. Over the next six years, we walked, hiked, sketched, painted, photographed and were touched by “the River” . . . as it is, as it was, as we wished it to be.
