About the Book
"Carol Santora: Horses of a Different Color" is a select collection of thirty-five pastel artworks, and the second Santora Fine Art publication.
Illustrated in full color, 'Carol Santora: Horses of a Different Color' celebrates the noble horse and mustang and is an impressive body of her pastel artwork created between November 2007 and October 2010.
I feel a special connection to animals, and as an artist, I express that extraordinary bond in paint. Focusing on the horse, I portray their spirit and soul—their energy, movement and physical presence with drips and splashes of paint over texturized surfaces and simple line drawings. Whether employing vivid hues, muted tones or black and white, the colors are intuitive. I pour, drip and spray paint, tilting the canvas to move the pigments and create runs. With the assistance of a palette knife, I scrape areas, move paint and create texture. The painting develops with this process of addition and subtraction – blotting, scrubbing and sanding some areas, and layering more paint to other areas.
