207 pictures from this beautiful archipelago
Åland is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Europe. Most people visit the stunning Finnish archipelago in the summer months but as a photographer I find the islands more interesting during autumn and winter. There is a crisp low sun producing dramatic effects and a myriad of changing colours as the seasons progress.
The mood changes month-by-month, week-by-week and sometimes even hour-by-hour as light, weather and temperature combine in different ways. These pictures are my personal view of these beautiful islands when the tourists have left and the nights and cold weather close in.
I am a freelance photographer from Wales now living on the island of Åland between Sweden and Finland. I have worked as a photographer for 20 years and a Picture Editor for 10 years in the UK before emigrating in 2008
