Melbourne was founded in 1835 on lands inhabited by the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung and Wathaurong peoples and named by Governor Richard Bourke in honour of the British Prime Minister William Lamb, the 2nd Viscount Melbourne.
It was officially declared a city by Queen Victoria in 1847.
Since then, a lot has happened.
