This work is a personal study in multiculturalism - its historical roots and its modern ties. Berette Macaulay developed it while on a recent Czech-German/West African family reunion in Beskyden, Czech Republic; and Ebenstein, on the Austrian/German border in the Summer of 2009.

This book features a collection of non-traditional fine art black & white portraiture of all participating family members who took this journey. The full Neue Rootz project however is also comprised of acquired photo archives and family documents showing an intercultural family history dating back to the 18th century; as well as a documentary film of the reunion. Selections from this book are currently on view at the National Gallery of Jamaica through March 2011.
