About the Book
During the summer of 2010 we decided to make a short trip to Scotland.
We took the DFDS Seaways ferry for a night transfer on the 11th of August and we came back in IJmuiden on the 22nd, early morning.
In Scotland we drove directly to Edinburgh and slept in a quiet little town called West Linton, which has an incredibly good restaurant called “The Old Bakehouse”. We spend the night in “The Rutherford House”, an excellent B&B.
After one night we moved on to Oban in the West and spend 2 nights in “Alt Na Craig House”, which was already much more commercial than our first B&B. Oban is a famous town from which you can travel in all kinds of directions and visit a couple of Islands too. We played a nice round of golf on a very hilly course and decided to make a walk on the isle of Luing, a small island a litte bit south of Oban.
After 2 nights we drove a bit north to the Isle of Skye. Unfortunately we left the sun behind us and ended up in the famous Scottish fog. Fortunately we stayed at Kinloch Lodge, which has a Michelin Star restaurant...;-). Oh boy, what an amazing amount of food we've got. Our Quiraing walk ended with rain, but we managed to climb the Old Man of Storr, which was enough for us.
Again after 2 nights we left for Nairn, The Sandown House B&B in the north. Liz gave us a brand new room and welcomed us with a nice glas of white wine! Great hospitality! Again we enjoyed a wonderful Scottish breakfast. Our last drive was South to the Pitlochry area, were we booked the wonderful Killiecrankie House.
A typical Scottish place which serves wonderful food and offers great hospitality!
From there we visited the Glenisla Highland Games in the pouring rain! What a pity, but luckily the sun started shining at the end of the day!
Scotland captured our hearts, we fell in love with the highland cows and look forward to explore more of this wonderful country.
