About the Book
IN THIS ISSUE
Black and white -
reductive trap or productive constraint?
Black and white: the ultimate binary opposition, devouring and shredding complexity, reducing it, distorting it, pushing it into one or the other of two wholly inadequate categories,
or the radical minimum, articulating distinctions, differences, subtleties, easily buried under normative variety and mean averages.
Black and white – explores the tension between these two notions,
sometimes separately,
sometimes together,
in photographs,
in language,
in sculpture,
In paintings,
in music,
in video.,
in . . .
dialogue?
The ResCollecTiVU - (Rez-Collec-TEE-View) is an alternative publication and performance series featuring innovative artistic works of the greater Lansing area. The pieces showcased here celebrate the collective and creative artistry by people in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, Michigan State University, and the surrounding communities.
Each issue of the publication will be organized thematically, and will feature dynamic, inventive, and provocative work of all mediums, including poetry, music, photography, theater, media art,
film, sound constructions, spoken word art, graphics, dance, instruments, installations, paper play, webart, and sculpture. This publication is open to all of MSU and the surrounding community. Artists of all kinds are encouraged to submit their work. The performance series will follow suite, and expand to include works that cannot easily be coaxed into a printed form.
