This book is a compilation of images taken in April 2009 and April 2010 of the Carrizo Plain in Central California. It is the last native grassland left in the State and a truly magical place.
A self-taught photographer Susannah is an award-winning fine art landscape and nature photographer as well as a portrait photographer. I was born in the proverbial trunk, a dancer, singer and actress. I gave up my career willingly to raise a family, but always needed a creative outlet. As my children grew I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning a horse. I became a competitive dressage rider- ballet on four legs-and started photographing my friends and their mounts at horse shows. The magic of seeing a print develop in the darkroom caught my imagination and I was on my way. Being out in the countryside photographing the beauty and granduer of nature is immensely satisfying to me, the composing of the shot is like setting the stage, one only has to wait for the light and shoot. Portrait photography is another favorite expression of mine, waiting for that right moment to reveal and capture the inner life of the subject.
