About the Book
Built in the 1800's, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, located in Houma, Louisiana, was known for its beautiful Gothic Revival Architecture and magnificent stain glass windows.
On November 11, 2010. the church and the adjacent Church-run elementary School perished from a blazing fire.
"St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Loss of a Historical Landmark" shows the devastating aftermath of what was once Terrebonne's Parish historical site.
... "Issa displays an intuitive gift for composition as she simultaneously memorializes and celebrates 114 years of church history...
... "She follows in the footsteps of renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, who trudged into the wreckage of the World Trade Center after the attacks of 9/11. Leibovitz and Issa both know that for a photograph to transcend the immediacy of the moment and achieve timelessness, it must illuminate not only the elements seen through the lens, but also the emanations that are felt by the heart...
... "Issa Abou-Issa has captured an unforgettable moment when the seen and the unseen, the physical and the metaphysical, stand in perfect harmony." ---Richard Speer--- Art Critic
