This is a photo journal of a 30,000 mile sailing trip around the world taken by Jim and Jeanne Kenaston aboard a 32' sailboat called "Sabbatical." The book has 500 color photographs and a story that takes the reader from Seattle to Florida - the long way around - with time spent in French Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, South Africa and the Caribbean. This voyage took place between 1979-1982, when cruising yachts had little in the way of electronics. The Kenastons navigated with a sextant and communicated with family using a ham radio. Electronic gadgets we think of as "normal" hadn't been invented yet! This two-volume set is a visual collection of adventures, geography lessons and cultural and political observations. The impressive photographs are beautiful and embrace the story.
