The Stirred + Simmered project is an investigation of culinary narratives by students of the Graphic Production course within the Community Arts and Diversity studies program. Using ethnographic research and interviewing, each student sat one on one with chefs from La Cocina’s Food Business Incubation program to hear first-hand about the experiences, motivations and meaning surrounding their recipes, business and culinary practices. Back in the studio, students were challenged to experiment with typography, pattern-making, layout and creative writing as a way to synthesize their research into a visual story in which to share with the larger community. These stories and recipes have been collected into a visual cookbook memoir that includes:

• 17 full color visual narratives designed by students of California College of the Arts
• 17 recipes from the chefs of La Cocina in San Francisco, CA
• Information on the chefs and where to find their products and services.
