About the Book
When I started studying watercolor painting, I painted Dennis Santiago’s family extensively (through their photographs). When I shared my work with them, they were always gracious and encouraged me to do more, even though many of the paintings I did were not good enough to make it into this book.
This book is the best of the best of the paintings and drawings I did of the Santiago between September 2009 and roughly August 2010. This book is dedicated to them. These dear friends helped convince me that I’m not completely wasting my time with this painting gig. Also, they are just so gosh darn photogenic that it's easy to paint a good picture of any of them.

On retiring in early 2008, I wanted to learn to paint and to play the electric guitar. I found painting first, through a hands-on watercolor course in 2009, and I discovered that the discipline presents such enjoyable challenges and benefits that I haven't yet gotten around to the guitar. My work uses watercolor paints and pencil, colored pencil, pen and ink, and other water compatible media. I am still learning to draw accurately, and amazingly this is very important to me.
