About the Book
For many, the drive to and from work is lost time; time which could be put to better use. The hour or so sat in jams, at lights, trying to find a parking space, adds up to days of dead time every year. However, we work for a good reason and this drudgery must be endured. Matthew’s book works through the frustration and negativity of the familiar rat run and follows a train of thought born from a fleeting glimpse of an air balloon or a gateway into a field, creating a diversion. The image of a car aerial juxtaposed against a vapour trail triggers thoughts that can transport you from your diesel saloon and take you on an altogether more interesting journey.

Having failed my Cub Scout Photography badge at the age of eight I then went on to studied photography at the School of Art & Design, University of Derby and graduated in 1996. Concerned primarily with landscape photography, the majority of my photographic works are created specifically for book spaces where narrative works particularly successfully. I view books as galleries, where each turn of the page is akin to moving into a different space.
