The people of Newfoundland call their island The Rock. This is an apt description because Newfoundland consists of rock, and there is virtually no soil.

Sitting out there beyond the edges of our continent, this rock is battered relentlessly by the North Atlantic, one of the fiercest oceans on earth.
But this rock is even older than the Atlantic Ocean itself.

The images that I present in this book express my vision of the island and the sea surrounding it. I wanted to create images that give an impression of the fundamental elements of this island: Wind, Sea, Rock.
I hope that Newfoundland, this Rock in a Windswept Sea, speaks through my images and lets the viewer get a taste of this stark and beautiful place.

I am a photographer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Since a while I am photographing the ordinary, that which I see every day, and try seeing it differently with my photos. Currently I experiment with turning color images into Black-and-White by digital means and toning them. I find that Black-and-White images - whether pure Black-and-White or color-toned images - can reveal deeper levels of meaning that may be difficult to perceive when the image is in colors.
