About the Book
In January 2010, writer/photographer Chris Walters toured the North and South Islands of New Zealand. In 16 days he drove an estimated 8,000 kilometres, travelled on six different trains and two ferries across and between both islands. Using the nation's sprawling railway network as a travel guide, Chris followed the tracks along oceans, into the mountains and through the cities. When they ended, he kept going until eventually meeting them again. From Milford Sound to the Bay of Plenty, from Wellington to Auckland, to Christchurch and Dunedin. Through Arthurs Pass and around the base of Mount Ruapehu, the journey was a true epic. Following Kiwi Rails is a document of this trek, from start to finish.
