A staggering amount of our nation’s fuel is used to transport food – the average piece of food travels over 1,500 miles before reaching the dinner table. The Urban Locavores project documents individuals and families in and around Los Angeles who have joined the local food movement. They raise backyard chickens, grow fruit and vegetables, and support local farms, and they certainly think twice before eating a strawberry in January.
