About the Book
THE MAP IS BLANK
A million years ago, in Primary School, I regularly described my belief-theory (call it what you like) to other children that the familiar map of the world was in fact only HALF the map.
It’s a globe I’d explain there’s another side...
With a blank flipside (transforming the blank spaces into portals, entrances).
It was, and remains, complete nonsense. But the idea continues to creep in around the edges now and then, THE FLIPSIDE OF THE MAP; the secret space(s) of the world. The map is blank but that’s precisely what drew me into its warm influence... evenings, weekends consumed filling in the blank side with fantasy spaces, idle daydreams of unnameable countries and forgotten continents:
The future
RETREAT TO THE BUNKER is the result of an 18-month collaborative relationship with the international art project Ghosts in Armour.
This edition produced to coincide with the exhibition "Ghosts in Armour" at the European Parliament in Brussels (28th March - 3rd April 2011).
