When an Apache Girl reachers puberty; sometime within the year of when she gets her first period here family will honor here with a Na'ii'ees - the Sunrise Ceremony. The event takes three days, during which time the girl transforms from girl to woman. She embodies White Painted Lady, the Apache maternal deity,. Much like Mary, mother of Jesus.
I was invited by the initiates family, with the consent of the Medicine Man to record this three day event.
