Labeled as a cancer survivor, my past is understood as a closed chapter despite its continued impact. Spending months without knowing what afflicted my body was not the last misdiagnosis I encountered. Remission is considered the end, when, in fact, it is only the beginning of a new struggle. Without understanding the details of my past, I find myself suffering through a different form of misdiagnosis.
Initially, I felt that I could not adequately express the emotional connection to my experiences through my work. However, supplementing the images with the accompanying story enhanced the emotional component of the scenes. Seemingly unrelated images developed into a storyboard for my life and the accounts stitched together each situation. As each scene solidified, connections to the present day became more apparent. Through this association, I began to shift the focus to the impact that the disease continues to have on my life.
